Chef John Moeller

Chef John Moeller, a Lancaster County native, began working in restaurants while still in high school. A graduate of Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island, he built his early career in restaurants across New England. Eager to immerse himself in French cuisine, he spent more than two years living, working, and studying in France before landing in St. Croix.

In 1987, he relocated to Washington, D.C., where French-trained chefs regularly gathered for networking events. It was at one of these events that he met chef Pierre Chambrin, who became the White House executive chef in 1989 and later recruited Moeller to join the kitchen. Chef Moeller served at the White House from 1992 to 2005 and chronicled those experiences in his book, *Dinner at the White House: From the President's Table to Yours*. After returning to Lancaster 15 years ago, he operated State of Affairs Catering before taking over The Greenfield.

Chef Moeller and his wife, Suryati, became owners of The Greenfield in 2018. Their son, Zach, serves as general manager. The Moellers are pictured in the restaurant's wine cellar, where mementos from Chef Moeller's White House years recall the three presidential families he served—those of George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush.

"John has extensive experience creating private events, whether it's an intimate party for two or a wedding with 500 people," he says. "Our standards remain the same regardless of the occasion. We recommend proper planning, but we can often accommodate short notice. Whether it's a week or a year in advance, we ensure everything is handled properly."
